SCARA 2009 : Children International Alpine Ski Races
This 29th edition of "La SCARA" will happens April 8th and 9th 2009.
Created 33 years ago to confront the children from Val d’Isère Ski Club with the children of other Ski Clubs training in our resort, this race was named ‘”the Children Easter Cup’”. After three years, this race became a French children race to officially end up the season. Year after year, French Ski Clubs were coming in ever increasing numbers. Later, after the accident of Hervé SCARAFFIOTTI, a member of the French Ski Team and of the Val d’Isère Ski Club, the organising committee decided to organise a Memorial in his honour and our race became "The Children Easter Cup - Memorial Hervé SCARAFFIOTTI"
FROM SCARAFFIOTTI TO "SCARA"
The following year, the race entered the International children ski race calendar. The Club des Sports de Val d’Isère joined the select clubs organising children races like the one organising the famous “TOPOLINO”. This new concept allowed Val d’Isère to get together the best European children to end up their ski season. Val d’Isère today is one of the few privileged ski clubs which can get together in one given season the world Elite with the Critérium de la 1ère Neige and their heirs with this children race. Since 1990, the race was also opened to girls. 11 years ago, the race changed name and became the SCARA, the local nickname of the family SCARAFFIOTTI.TODAY
Today, the SCARA serves as a qualification for racers’ future selection at a national level. Another characteristic of this race is to allow the best French racers, boys and girls to compete with their counterparts of numerous nations.SOME FAMOUS SCARA'S WINNERS !
