OUR HISTORY
The origins
The Club des Sports de Val d’Isère is a veritable institution at the heart of the resort. While Val d’Isère became a ski resort in 1934, the Club des Sports (an association under the French law of 1901) was founded in 1935 by Charles DIEBOLD, a native of Alsace.
From the outset, the Club has been run by several Alsatians. Firstly, by Mr Louis ERNY, then by Mr Jean-Claude FRITSCH, who managed it until 2006.
In 2006, Emmanuel COUDER took over and ran the Club until 2014. After him, Vincent JAY took over and managed the Club until April 2019. Since then, Ingrid JACQUEMOD has held the position of Club Manager.
A club that made history...
Before becoming a multi-section association (Alpine Skiing, Football, Rugby, Climbing, Cycling, etc.), the Club wasmainly dedicated to Alpine Skiing, and more particularly to high-level competition. It has seen many champions pass through its doors, all of whom have left their mark on the history of French skiing thanks to their exceptional achievements.
Today, the Club des Sports de Val d’Isère is the most successful club in theworld, with 57 exceptional athletes including Henri Oreiller, Christine and Marielle Goitschel, Jean-Claude Killy, Mathieu Bozzetto, Clément Noël and Victor Muffat-Jeandet. Together, they have won 21 gold and 3 bronze medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships.
...and will leave its mark for a long time to come!
The Club currently trains over 50 young skiers, divided into groups according to age category, and supervised by coaches, all former competitors. A “Pre-Club” section has also been set up, comprising over 80 children. It plays a key role in spotting talent and nurturing future ski champions. In fact, the Club finished 1st French club in the AFESA rankings at the end of the 2014/2015 season.
Victor Muffat-Jeandet and Clément Noël, both members of theFrench national team, have taken over from the great champions of the past. Other talents such as Ken Caillot, Augustin Berthet, Valentine Belmont, Diego Bonnevie and many others continue to fly the Club’s colors. And let’s not forget Mathieu Bozzetto, the world’s most successful snowboarder!
