ISERANE

On June 21, 2026, take on Europe’s highest road pass, at 2770m! Every year, during the Iserane event, the climb up the Col de l’Iseran is reserved for cyclists. For this event, the D902 road is closed from Val d’Isère to Bonneval sur Arc.

Since 1937, this road linking the Maurienne and Tarentaise regions has seen several stages of the Tour de France pass through, as well as countless cyclists, motorcyclists and motorists… The Col de l’Iseran is a must on the Route des Grandes Alpes, with its 360° panorama and the Franco-Italian summit of Tsanteleina in the foreground.

PROGRAM

Motorized traffic will be interrupted during the event, from 08:00 to 13:00, on Sunday June 21, 2026.

08:00 – Free registration on the Tourist Office square (American-style bike rally and tombola), breakfast and opening of the electric bike loan service (22 available, ID card required, loan for one round trip Val d’Isère-Col de l’Iseran only, no prior reservation required).

08:30 – Opening of the route and group departure of participants.

10:00 am – For safety reasons, the descent from the Col de l’Iseran is only permitted from 10:00 am.

10:30 am – Registration closes for the American-style tombola.

12:00 – 12:30 – American-style raffle draw in the square in front of the Val d’Isère Tourist Office.

1:00 pm – The road reopens to motorized vehicles.

The Iserane starts from Val d’Isère Tourist Office square. The route to the Col de l’Iseran is around 16 km, with 1,000 m of ascent. This is a round trip, for a total of 32 km, with 1,000 m of ascent on the outward journey and 1,000 m of descent on the return.

For those who wish to prolong the effort, it is possible to continue the descent to Bonneval-sur-Arc. However, there is no shuttle service to Val d’Isère. It is therefore essential to plan ahead. The road is also expected to reopen to traffic at around 1:00 pm on the Bonneval-sur-Arc side. Find out more about the event on the Bonneval side below: Iserane Cyclo 2026

This cycling event is not a race, and no timekeeping or ranking is involved.

Free gathering, open to all, licensed or not. Minors must be accompanied or placed under the responsibility of their legal guardian. Two refreshment points are provided: a breakfast at the start and a second at the Col de l’Iseran.

Each participant certifies that the bicycles used in this event are “conventional” bicycles or electrically assisted bicycles within the meaning of Directive 2002/24/EC of March 18, 2002 defining the conditions to be met for an EAB to be considered a cycle and not a moped, namely:
1. The motor is started solely by pedaling, and must stop as soon as you stop pedaling. A pedaling sensor is therefore essential.
2. Electric assistance must be switched off at 25 km/h, as the bike can be ridden faster without motor intervention.
3. The motor’s power rating must not exceed 250 watts.
4. The motor must switch off as soon as at least one of the brakes is applied.

The Iserane takes place on a closed road reserved for non-motorized two-wheelers (RD 902). Competitors must comply with the rules of the road: ride on the right-hand side of the road; for the descent to Bonneval and the return to Val d’Isère: control their speed and stay in control of their trajectory. It is compulsory to wear a helmet (an approved “rigid shell” model) throughout the event. Following cars are not allowed. Bicycles must meet the sole condition of being driven by muscular power. If electrically-assisted bikes are used, they must meet the standards set by the FFC and FFM (see article 8). All participants must be insured (accident and civil liability). We recommend taking out equipment breakdown insurance. Participation in the Iserane event implies unreserved acceptance of the present rules. The decisions of the organizers are final and without appeal. Any dispute will be settled by the organizers.
