Talented Firmin, helped by the famous skier Oreiller, soon started travelling abroad in order to participate in competitions, which included the Oslo Olympics in 1952 . In 1955 he was the first winner of the Critérium de la Première neige. The following season, while competing in Are, he sustained an injury that put an end to his profesianal career. He became a ski instructor and coach for the Club des Sports de Val d’Isère, where he trained the Goitschel sisters in the 60s. Firmin still enjoys skiing every winter
